REVIEW
This set of Linda Castillo’s short stories is as delightful as any of her long-form books. Her writing grabs your attention within minutes and has your heart pounding throughout. The stories are fast-paced, action-packed, and enjoyable. Most of all, I love Burkholder’s delightful character. She is smart, resilient, and determined. You can’t ask for more than that.
While all the stories are great, my favorite is about an Amish couple and their granddaughter who disappear on their way to town in a horse-and-buggy. The granddaughter, who was staying with the older couple, had recently been threatened by the girl's troubled boyfriend. With a storm approaching, Kate rushes to their remote farm, searching for them along the way. When a truck causes her to crash into a ravine, she discovers a shattered buggy.
I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the listen. Narrator, Kathleen McInerney’s voice is perfect for Kate and all the other characters. I thoroughly appreciate her dramatic voice, accent, tone, and pacing.
Thank you to Netgalley for an advance copy of this book. All opinions expressed here are my own.
