Lily Delaney is a bookbinder apprentice in Oxford in 1901, and feels confined by her father’s failing bookshop and her status as a woman in a man’s profession. During a visit to a collector, she finds a burned book with a hidden fifty-year-old love letter. She becomes obsessed with the mystery of the young lovers and finds more hidden pages.
