REVIEW

A PROMISED LAND Is a riveting, and thoughtful memoir written by a consummate storyteller. This is a beautifully written and much needed documentary and retrospective of the of first three years of Obama’s presidency. His intelligence and humility is evident and appreciated.

Some of the most intriguing parts of the book are Obama’s reflections on his thought processes and risk evaluations when making major decisions and sending other into harms way, like the killing of bin Laden. His personal stories of Michelle and the girls added lightness and heart to the twenty-nine hour, (700 page) recounting of significant historical events.

The audio book was narrated by Obama. Much like all of his speeches, it was expertly delivered with professionalism, character and grace. His tone, pacing and pronunciation was perfect. Listening to his voice was especially inspiring, comforting and reassuring.

“And so the world watches America – the only great power in history made up of people from every corner of the planet, comprising every race and faith and cultural practice – to see if our experiment in democracy can work. To see if we can do what no other nation has ever done. To see if we can actually live up to the meaning of our creed.”

“More than anyone, this book is for those young people—an invitation to once again remake the world, and bring about, through hard work, determination, and a big dose of imagination, an America that finally aligns with all that is best in us.”
